"A recent meta-analysis concluded what many people already knew: the availability of firearms is a strong risk factor for both homicide and suicide. But the study came to another conclusion that is rarely mentioned in the gun control debate: females are uniquely impacted by the availability of a firearm. Indeed, the study found that women with access to firearms become homicide victims at significantly higher rates than men."
Wrong. Japan has insanely strict firearms laws and very low ownership, and they have the highest suicide rates in the world.
as a person who attempted suicide, to trivializing the personal afflictions that cause suicide and make it about the availability of firearms is both insensitive and sickening.
It doesn’t matter how easy firearms are to get. knives, prescription pills, heights are all easier to get and way cheaper. And people who are true risks for suicide don’t do it based on what’s easiest, that’s why they plan it out which is a solid sign of risk.
